Frequently Asked Questions

What is Timber?

Timber is an app to easily track shared expenses with friends, family, and groups. Log expenses, calculate who owes what, and settle up easily.

How does the split calculation work?

Timber calculates the minimum number of transactions needed for everyone to settle balances. It offsets what people owe each other and generates a simplified list of payments.

Can I choose how an expense is split?

Yes. You can split equally or choose specific amounts, percentages, or shares per person when adding an expense.

How do I add a new expense?

Inside any group, tap the + button, enter the amount, what the expense was for, who paid it, and how you want to split it.

Can I export my group's expense data?

Yes. You can export group expenses from group settings as a CSV file for your own records.

How do I settle a balance?

Open your group balances to see who owes who. After payments, use Settle Up to record them and clear balances.

How is my data protected?

Your expense data is stored securely and is only accessible by you and members of groups you participate in.

Do you support multiple currencies?

Yes. You can set your preferred default currency in settings, and groups can use their own currencies.

For faster troubleshooting, include group name, expense details, and expected balance behavior in your email.
